The Arts Gang isn’t about promotion. It’s about building a strong, powerful connection among Tuscaloosa artists. The Gang works to establish this connection by conducting weekly interview sessions with different artists from the community. Here’s how it works…
Each week, three artists are chosen to participate in a group discussion. They are selected based on their artistic style as well as their personal beliefs and ideas. The goal is to have different artists communicating with one another on a given topic. This will result in rich, diverse conversation. The topic of discussion will relate to Tuscaloosa, whether is be art, political, environmental, or university related. Of course the discussion is not limited to these subjects. Once the topic is chosen, The Gang will notify the artists by email, and the discussion will begin.
They have exactly five days to communicate back and forth, sharing their perspectives on the topic by email. Each response if posted on the website on a daily basis. Each session features the continuous replies from the artists. Once those responses have been posted online, the community and other members of The Arts Gang will then have the opportunity to comment on the posted discussion which will encourage communication and interaction among all individuals.
Rather than solely offering exposure, the website provides the general community with a better understanding of who these individuals are as artists. Additionally, it provides a means of connection among the arts community all while bridging the gap between the arts and general Tuscaloosa community.
In addition to providing a means of communication and interaction for the local arts community, the project also works to bridge the gap between the general and arts community. Therefore, constructive feedback and insight is encouraged on The Gang’s weekly sessions. Feel free to include yourself in the conversation by commenting on individual posts.
